Applying for ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain) in the UK

May 29, 2010

This post will cover all the preparation for my application for ILR a.k.a Settlement.

Collecting the material

Can I apply for ILR without Passport?

Answer is yes.

Home Office will issue a document called ISD (immigration status document). The sticker on ISD would be the same as it is usually stamped on the Passport.

An Immigration Status Document (ISD) is issued by the Home Office or the Border and Immigration Agency to the holder with an endorsement indicating that the person named in it is allowed to stay indefinitely in the UK or has no time limit on their stay in the UK. (ISD’s were phased out in December 2003, but are still valid).

Normally ISD is associated with Refugees and Asylum seekers but can be also given to those who can’t produce Passport at the time of ILR application.

Knowledge of language and life’ requirement for settlement (ILR)

This criteria is not applicable to me as I’m covered inder HSMP indefinite leave to remain (ILR) judicial review.

Fee

the current standard
specified fees for applications on form SET(O) are £840 for postal or courier applications, or £1095 for the premium

When to Apply?

Please do not apply more than 28 days before completing the qualifying period. If you apply earlier than that, your application
may be refused. If that happens, we will not refund the fee and you will have to pay again when reapplying.

Qualifying Period

The 4-year qualifying period applies only to applications made under the terms of the HSMP indefinite leave to remain judicial review policy document. Those terms apply only if you applied successfully under the highly skilled migrant programme (HSMP) before 3 April 2006.

DOCUMENTS
Documents provided with the application must be originals.

APPLYING BY POST – THE ADDRESS
If you are applying by post, the address to which you must send an application on form SET(O) is:
UK Border Agency
Indefinite Leave to Remain
PO Box 591
Durham
DH1 9FS

We will return your passport(s) and other documents by Recorded Delivery. If you would like them to be returned by Special Delivery, you must provide a prepaid Special Delivery envelope which is large enough.

How long this ISD would be valid for?

Indefinite obviously ;)

Someone’s experience on ILR application in person. Came to know that I could have applied for ILR without getting my Fucking Indian passport renewed. After getting my ILR I would have applied for passport renewal and then rest in peace. After getting new passport I would transfer ILR into new passport at some cost.

What a fucking Idiot I am. Ignorance is not bliss. I got pissed off. FUCK it!!!!! I messed up my life by myself. Feel like hammering my head.

Opening times: Monday to Thursday 9:00am to 4:45pm. Friday 9:00am to 4:30pm

Here is weird stuff

PEO Croydon only. We would ask that all customers arrive with their supporting documentation already photocopied. Failure to do this could delay consideration of your case. Please ensure that you bring your original documents with you for comparison purposes. Photocopies do not need to be notarised or certified by a solicitor.

I’m going to apply at Croydon so I gonna carry loads of photocopies that is quite a bit of work. But hey I’m not complaining at all, it is not going to be as miserable as my Indian Passport Renewal Process.

On the Dooms Day

Arrive at least 30 minutes before the appointment. And yes don’t forget to cover for notorious British Train Delayes ;)
