Well does'nt look like I'm going to be getting my renewed passport back anytime soon. Submitted it at CGI Birmingham 2 weeks ago, was given a receipt but no indication as to when the bloody thing will be ready for pick up!. Spole to some senior jobsworth at the time and the bloke was very vague about timescales but did mention the possiblity of gettin a 1 year passport. I'm in a bit of a pickle now as i need to travel in a couple of weeks! Does any one know the procedure to get a short validity passport? Can't travel to Birmingham all the time from Newcastle and the staff at the consulate are possibly the least helpfull bunch of people I've ever had the misfortune to meet, so any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I can not tell you that since I have not received my passport as yet. Seems long!!

If one of your friend says that it took ten days then you can assume to be the same. Better wait for about 3 weeks you should get your passport by then. If you do not get it then, try to contact them by email or telephone. In most of the cases you would get positive response, the procedure for re-issue is same for everyone. You can browse through this website there is plenty information on it.

Hi all, got my passport today after the old one expired after 10 years. To be frank i was quite worried especially after seeing what has happened to others. I was asked to collect my passport after a month but tried my luck after 20 days and luckily got it. But there are definitely things which can improve... For ex they need to have a online appointment booking system, this method of getting people to queue up early morning is really shameful. They should improve their website, ask somebody to answer phones, be courteous etc. at the same time people need to be more sensible. They wont dare to break the line or make noise in another embassy, but in indian embassy its free for all. I would still say a far better service than indian passport offices where you dont know whats happening unless you bribe people

Wow, after listening to all these things. I am scared of renewing my passport(still I have 3 years... but it looks scary). I was looking for Italian consulate trouble than I found your post.. I went today to apply for visa and the official reacted totally like our Indians (even they ask me to submit the passport and will not give receipt as I missed travel insurance and once I send them, they will give receipt with passport, I said NO way without receipt no passport submission...... I came back" Than I realized.. why India is not improving..

From your post it seems getting US visa (or any other country's visa) is more easy than getting Indian passport from Indian embassy by an India (even after paying back so much money or earning respect for India in world)... Our holy Government official screw us from both ends... I pray best of luck to everyone and I hope there is a natural virus which attack only these government officials and all of them die and new officials are appointed which are honest and efficient....
Best of LUCK.. as Indian we need "LUCK" always... pre-birth checkups till the death certificate.... Next time born in gandIII family (h is silent intentionally),if you want to born in India

Tx Mate! I know that.

British Citizenship is not my birth right, they don't just dole it out to everyone who has been living in this country for over a decade. Well yes they do this only to illegal immigrants and all those refuse of society but not to people like us.

There are a lot of paper work to be sorted out before I could apply for that.

But yes British Citizenship has been in my mind since I got screwed up by these incompetent Indian bureaucrats.

Let's see how it goes.

Why don't you get British citizenship and then apply for OCI. If you really want to keep Indian passport then at least you can travel to India with British passport and get it sorted in India.

Dear Nishant

If you have all the documents and if your passport does not show adverse on its police verification report, then you will get it within a week of application. You also have to register your baby's birth with the HCI, both can be done in the same day. Just remember to mention it while taking tickets for the counters. You do not need to carry your baby to the HCI.
Once registration is complete take a photo copy of the registration receipt before going to passport application counter.
Hope this helps.
In case you have problems with your passport. It may take longer time depending on case to case. In case of problems, God forbid if you need to visit the HCI make sure you meet the Passport officer (you who to force it a bit to meet him, but if you have baby they allow you to meet). If your case is genuine they will issue your baby a 5 year passport.
The rule book says baby passport can be issued even the parents have failed police verifications, and the same can be issued solely on the discretion of the passport officer. But you have to force them to take this second step.
Best of luck.
